Let me preface this by saying that I’m usually one of the first rushing to defend Barack Obama, and one of the last to defend celebrities like Kanye West. However, if this story about Obama calling Kanye a “jackass” is true, there need to be some apologies all around.

1) The obvious one: Obama apologizing to Kanye for his remarks. This is just the human thing to do.

2) Obama apologizing to the American people for doing something stupid, and lacking the decorum his office requires. I’d had enough of this during the Bush years (Bush attempting to give Angela Merkel a backrub springs to mind).

3) CNBC wasting the President’s time with celebrity gossip. Whatever his opinion, it’s not Obama’s job to be commenting on entertainment news. Is this seriously what passes for journalism these days?

4) ABC News for not respecting an “off-the-record” statement. Again, this is basic human courtesy — if someone tells you not to repeat something, DON’T FUCKING REPEAT IT!

5) Every single news source that thought that anything related to the VMA awards should be a top story of the day. Guess what? Celebrities do stupid shit *all the time*. That’s what gossip rags are for, not CNN or CNBC.

In closing, this shouldn’t be a story at all. Who gives a fuck what Kanye says? Why does the freaking President need to be involved? What the hell, people? Is there really nothing better for us to pay attention to?
